Allegiant Air, known for its ultra-low-cost business model, is facing labor unrest as over 100 of its pilots have initiated informational pickets across the United States. The pilots are demanding a new contract that includes better pay and benefits.

The Allegiant Pilots Association Teamsters Local 2118 has reported that the pilots have been working without an amended contract for four years. The union aims to secure a pay increase that aligns with industry standards. Allegiant claims it has proposed a contract offering a 50% pay raise, but the union argues this comes with concessions in work rules, scheduling, and seniority.

A significant gathering took place at Orlando Sanford Airport, where 63 pilots demonstrated their call for fair labor terms. Similar actions occurred at St. Pete-Clearwater Airport and Des Moines International Airport on December 10, indicating widespread dissatisfaction among the pilots.

The ongoing mediation between Allegiant's management and the union has yet to yield results. In October 2024, an overwhelming majority of pilots voted to strike if necessary. However, federal regulations mandate a 30-day cooling-off period before any strike can legally occur, ensuring holiday travelers will not face disruptions during Christmas or New Year's.

At Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, additional picketing involved pilots from Lexington, Louisville, Cincinnati, and Dayton. According to FOX 19, Allegiant reiterated its offer of an immediate 50% wage increase scaling up to 70% over time.

As tensions persist between Allegiant Air and its pilots' union, both parties remain in mediation seeking resolution before further escalation occurs.
