This article reviews five of the most powerful fighter jet engines currently in use. Among them, two power fourth-generation aircraft, while three are used in fifth-generation aircraft.

The EJ200 engine powers the Eurofighter Typhoon, which patrols European skies on Quick Reaction Alert status. It operates over a combined airspace of 1.4 million kilometers across Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK. The program supports 100,000 jobs across 400 companies in Europe.

General Electric's F110 engine has been powering US Air Force jets since 1984. It is used by 70% of the USAF’s F-16C/D combat aircraft and all fly-by-wire F-15EX Eagle II jets. Sean Keith from General Electric highlighted that "a full 92% of the parts have undergone some type of design change."

Russia's Saturn AL-41F1 engine powers its Su-57 “Felon” aircraft with thrust-vectoring control surfaces and can operate at high altitudes. Western sanctions might be affecting Russia’s fifth-generation aircraft programs.

Pratt & Whitney's F119 engine powers the F-22 Raptor with advanced features like a counter-rotating core and pitch-vectoring exhaust nozzle for maneuverability. The Defense Acquisition University noted its servicing requirements: "only five hand tools should be used to service the entire engine."

Finally, Pratt & Whitney's F135 engine powers the F-35 Lightning II series. This highly digitized engine processes over a billion instructions per second through its Full Authority Digital Engine Control system. More than 1,200 engines have been delivered to date.
