HK Express has inaugurated its first nonstop flight from Hong Kong to Mount Fuji Shizuoka Airport in Japan. This marks the airline's tenth destination in Japan, highlighting its position as the Hong Kong carrier with the most Japanese destinations.

The inaugural flight, UO894, departed from Hong Kong International Airport at 09:33 and arrived at Mount Fuji Shizuoka Airport at 13:43 after a 3-hour and 10-minute journey. The return flight left Shizuoka at 15:11 and was scheduled to land back in Hong Kong by 18:44. The route is serviced by an Airbus A320neo, part of HK Express's fleet of 40 Airbus aircraft.

Jeanette Mao, CEO of HK Express, stated that "Japan has always been a key market for us," noting the upcoming launch of another Japanese destination, Sendai. This will bring their total to eleven destinations in Japan.

The airline benefits from China's visa waiver program with Japan, which allows Japanese tourists to visit China for up to 30 days without a visa. This is expected to increase traffic between Japan and mainland China via Hong Kong.

To celebrate the new route, HK Express involved Chibi Maruko-chan, a popular character from Shizuoka, in festivities both at Hong Kong International Airport and onboard the inaugural flight. Additionally, Maruko-chan's friends participated in welcoming ceremonies at Mount Fuji Shizuoka Airport.

HK Express is recognized for its punctuality and safety standards. It ranks third globally among low-cost carriers for on-time arrivals and holds a '7-star safety rating' from airline ratings.com.
