Juneyao Air has commenced its operations in Australia, offering a new travel route from Shanghai to Sydney. The inaugural flight, HO1669, landed at Sydney Airport at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday. This makes Juneyao the ninth airline from mainland China to operate at this airport.

The service includes four weekly direct flights between Shanghai and Sydney, increasing seat capacity to mainland China beyond pre-pandemic levels. John Graham, Minister for Jobs and Tourism, emphasized the importance of increased aviation capacity in supporting New South Wales' $50 billion annual visitor economy.

Juneyao Air was founded in 2005 and is based in Shanghai, China. It operates domestic and international flights primarily from Shanghai's Hongqiao and Pudong airports, serving over 80 destinations across 12 countries. As a Connecting Partner of the Star Alliance, Juneyao Air offers passengers enhanced connectivity with other member airlines.

According to Planespotters, Juneyao's fleet consists of 100 aircraft with an average age of 7.2 years. The fleet includes A320s, A321s, and 787 Dreamliners. Passengers on long-haul flights can enjoy complimentary meals and entertainment options.

In Business Class on the 787 Dreamliner, travelers experience lay-flat beds and high-resolution screens among other amenities.

Founded in 2006 as China's first privately-owned airline to launch intercontinental flights in 2019 with a route to Helsinki, Juneyao continues expanding globally. Scott Charlton from Sydney Airport noted that the new service enhances Sydney’s role as Australia's main entry point for Chinese visitors.

Juneyao will also begin flights to Melbourne this Thursday. Lorie Argus from Melbourne Airport highlighted the economic impact of these flights and mentioned ongoing investments like terminal upgrades and a third runway project worth $3 billion.

The introduction of Juneyao Air strengthens ties between Australia and China while boosting tourism and economic growth in both New South Wales and Victoria.
