Two Boeing-built O3b mPOWER satellites have successfully begun operations in space after their launch from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida. The launch took place at 5:26 p.m., and the satellites separated from the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket approximately two hours later. These satellites will join six existing O3b mPOWER satellites to enhance SES's global high-speed connectivity services.

Michelle Parker, vice president of Boeing Space Mission Systems, stated, "These satellites are the most advanced commercial communications satellites we’ve built to-date. It’s exciting to work with SES to get these satellites into service."

The O3b mPOWER system is SES's second-generation medium Earth orbit constellation. It aims to transform industries with terabit-level capacity and roundtrip latency of less than 150 milliseconds.

Adel Al-Saleh, CEO of SES, commented on the development: "O3b mPOWER is our most powerful, technically advanced, flexible satellite constellation in space. As we increase the number of satellites in our constellation, we also exponentially increase the capacity and efficiency of our network."

Boeing will manage the in-orbit testing phase for these new satellites before handing them over to SES in about four months. Parker noted, "From concept to reality, designing and delivering this first-of-its-kind technology to SES has been remarkable."

Each satellite is equipped with more than 5,000 digitally formed beams capable of meeting dynamic demand across various environments. This software-driven system enables SES to meet current and future connectivity needs globally.
