IHG One Rewards has introduced a targeted offer allowing select members to purchase elite qualifying points. This opportunity, reported by LoyaltyLobby, enables participants to secure their desired status for 2025 by purchasing the necessary points by December 31, 2024.

Emails have been sent to eligible members detailing how many elite qualifying points are required. The subject lines of these emails vary but generally convey urgency regarding maintaining or upgrading elite status. The number of points needed is based on the member's account status as of December 6, which may not reflect any subsequent earnings.

The offer is visible to targeted members when they log into their IHG accounts. Clicking through the provided links directs them to a page where they can make the purchase. Non-targeted individuals will not see this option.

Christine Gallipeau and Matt Moffitt from The Points Guy have shared their experiences with this offer. Christine plans to buy additional points instead of completing planned stays, as it proves more cost-effective. Meanwhile, Matt considers buying points due to his upcoming travel plans in 2025.

Members require different amounts of elite qualifying points depending on their desired status: 40,000 for Gold Elite, 60,000 for Platinum Elite, and 120,000 for Diamond Elite. Some cardholders receive a discount on point purchases, making the offer even more appealing.

However, there are limitations; only one purchase is allowed per member during this offer period. Also noteworthy is that while purchasing these points aids in achieving elite status qualification, it does not grant access to IHG Milestone Rewards.

Despite some criticism from existing high-status members who feel disadvantaged by this promotion, IHG's initiative provides an accessible path toward elevated membership benefits such as bonus points and complimentary upgrades.
