Ben Minicucci, CEO of Alaska Airlines | Alaska Airlines

Alaska Airlines has announced a new nonstop service between San Diego International Airport and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), following approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation. This development makes Alaska Airlines the only carrier to offer direct flights on this route, enhancing connectivity to the nation's capital.

Ben Minicucci, CEO of Alaska Airlines, expressed gratitude for the support received: "We are pleased the DOT sees the value of Alaska providing direct service between San Diego and DCA, and we thank the many leaders, local businesses and organizations who supported our bid."

San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria highlighted the significance of this new route: "Today is a great day for the San Diego Region with the announcement of a new, nonstop flight to Washington, D.C.’s Reagan National Airport. This flight will further connect our growing defense, research and innovation economies to our leaders in the Capitol."

The airline plans to begin daily year-round service connecting one of its key West Coast hubs with Washington D.C., adding to its existing nonstop services from Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. Kimberly J. Becker, President and CEO of San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, noted that "San Diego has been the largest origin-destination market without service to Reagan National Airport," emphasizing how this route will enhance connectivity for both business and leisure travelers.

Alaska Airlines offers an elevated travel experience with no change fees, ample legroom in First Class and Premium Class, satellite Wi-Fi, and a generous Mileage Plan. The airline is also expanding its lounge program with new locations planned in several cities.

Alaska Air Group comprises subsidiaries such as Hawaiian Holdings Inc., Horizon Air, and McGee Air Services. The group serves over 140 destinations across North America, Central America, Asia, and the Pacific.
