Ethiopian Airlines has partnered with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) government to launch a new airline, Air Congo. The CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Group, Mesfin Tasew, remarked on the significance of this collaboration: “The launch of Air Congo is a significant step in our strategic plan to collaborate with African governments and enhance air transport across the continent. This partnership will provide greater connectivity for the DRC and Central Africa, facilitating investment, trade, and tourism, thereby contributing to socio-economic growth of the region."

Air Congo began its operations with two Boeing 737-800 aircraft serving domestic markets within the DRC. Seven airports are currently part of its initial network. Ethiopian Airlines has signed key technical agreements that include aircraft leasing and comprehensive technical support. Additionally, Ethiopian Airlines will train Congolese nationals for various roles such as pilots and cabin crew.

This venture is part of Ethiopian Airlines' Vision 2035 strategy aimed at establishing multiple hubs across Africa. It complements existing partnerships with ASKY Airlines in Lomé, Malawi Airlines in Lilongwe, and Zambia Airways in Lusaka.
