JetBlue Airways has announced a new initiative in partnership with climate tech company Chooose, allowing its TrueBlue members and Mosaic status passengers to earn rewards by purchasing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This opportunity is available until the end of the year, aligning with JetBlue's goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Passengers can earn one tile for every $100 spent on SAF contributions. These tiles help travelers progress towards their Mosaic status and unlock additional perks within the TrueBlue program. "As we enter our sixth year of flying with SAF, we are now making it even easier (and rewarding) for customers to join us in our efforts," said Sara Bogdan, JetBlue’s Managing Director of Sustainability.

The SAF contributions can be made online through JetBlue’s website until December 31st. Nearly 90% of these contributions will go towards purchasing SAF or blended products, while around 10% covers a service fee for Chooose. Passengers have the option to combine their SAF purchases with other qualifying travel expenses to maximize their benefits.

This move follows JetBlue's recent revamp of its frequent-flyer program, which introduced new levels and benefits aimed at enhancing customer rewards. The airline emphasizes that this initiative builds on its commitment to sustainability and offers value to customers interested in supporting decarbonization in aviation.

Other airlines have similar programs; Alaska Airlines offers Mileage Plan members the chance to earn miles through SAF credits. United Airlines recently became the first carrier to use SAF at Chicago O'Hare International Airport as part of its sustainability efforts.
