American Express's largest Centurion Lounge at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport failed a health inspection earlier this month, receiving a score of 69. This is just below the passing mark of 70. The inspection by the Georgia Department of Health revealed several violations, including insects in the bar area, uncovered food, and open beverages.

The lounge did not adhere to standard protocols such as displaying its previous report. American Express responded to Atlanta News First with a statement: “Delivering a great experience in the Centurion Lounge is our top priority. We take these inspections seriously and have taken immediate steps to address the report.”

The violations noted included issues like open beverages on countertops, uncovered foods, buildup on ice machine surfaces, improper temperature control for certain foods, lack of time stamps on buffet items, and wet dishes being stacked without air drying. Flies were also observed in the main bar area.

The lounge opened in February and had previously achieved a perfect score of 100 during an inspection on January 25 before its official opening on February 14. Subsequent inspections resulted in scores of 71 on April 4 and June 3.

A mandatory meeting was arranged with the Health Department, lounge owner, managers, and executive chef to discuss these findings. A retest conducted on December 18 showed that the lounge has now passed.

The Centurion Lounge operates daily from 06:00 to 23:00 for eligible travelers and offers premium food options along with beer, wine, spirits, printers, copiers, fast WiFi, shower facilities, and more. It features a locally-inspired menu by Chef Deborah VanTrece and includes The Reserve by American Express whiskey bar.
