Pegasus Airlines, a Turkish low-cost carrier, has announced a significant order with Boeing for up to 200 737 MAX 10 aircraft. This move comes as Boeing faces challenges, including an exit door plug blowout on a 737 MAX 9 and a seven-week strike that affected production in Washington state.

Pegasus Airlines' CEO, Güliz Öztürk, stated the airline plans to expand its global network with the new aircraft. "Boeing aircraft have been an integral part of our operations since Pegasus entered the aviation industry in 1990," said Öztürk. The airline's commitment includes 100 firm orders and options for another 100 planes.

Currently, Pegasus operates nine Boeing 737-800s but relies mainly on Airbus aircraft. With this new order, Pegasus' order book increases to potentially 252 aircraft if all options are exercised. The airline is also awaiting delivery of more Airbus A321neo aircraft.

The delivery timeline for the new Boeing planes remains unclear as the MAX 10 has not yet received certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing’s commercial aircraft division, expressed excitement about the partnership: "We appreciate their trust in the Boeing team and we look forward to delivering on the 737-10."

The MAX family had previously secured over a thousand orders before this announcement. United Airlines holds the largest order with commitments for 165 planes. Other major customers include Ryanair and Delta Air Lines.
