The Lufthansa Group has announced an increase in its firm orders for Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, raising the total from ten to 15. The newly ordered aircraft are expected to be delivered between 2028 and 2030, with the total order valued at approximately two billion US dollars at list price. This move positions the Lufthansa Group as one of the largest customers for the A350 series globally, now holding orders for 60 A350-900s and 15 A350-1000s.

Carsten Spohr, Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of Deutsche Lufthansa AG, commented on this development: “Today’s order underscores our great confidence in our long-standing, close and successful partnership with Airbus. With the state-of-the-art A350 long-haul jets, we are accelerating the largest fleet modernization the Group has done so far. We are investing more than ever before to make air transport more sustainable, to achieve our CO₂ reduction targets and at the same time offer our customers the highest level of comfort with a first-class travel experience."

Including this latest order, Lufthansa Group has placed a total of 770 aircraft orders with Airbus over its history. The company is set to expand further with ITA Airways' integration in January, adding another 100 short- and long-haul aircraft to its fleet.

The new aircraft acquisitions are part of Lufthansa's strategy to enhance premium quality while improving cost efficiency and reducing emissions. The group currently operates around 740 commercial aircraft and plans to replace older four-engine models like Boeing 747-400s and Airbus A340s with more efficient twin-engine jets.

The new additions are expected to consume up to 35 percent less fuel than their predecessors, contributing significantly toward Lufthansa's goal of halving net CO₂ emissions by 2030 compared to levels recorded in 2019. The ultimate aim is achieving a neutral CO₂ balance by 2050.

Previously in March 2023, Lufthansa had ordered ten A350-1000s scheduled for delivery starting April 2026. These planes measure 73.8 meters in length and provide approximately a 15 percent increase in capacity over the A350-900 model.
