Air New Zealand has announced its largest sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) purchase, securing 30 million liters to be used at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO) until February 2026. The SAF will be supplied by Neste and is expected to reduce carbon emissions by up to 80% compared to traditional jet fuel.
Kiri Hannifin, Air New Zealand's Chief Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officer, emphasized the importance of increasing SAF usage. "As an airline, we are targeting using 10% SAF by 2030," she said. The airline aims to move away from fossil fuels and is exploring local production options in New Zealand.
Neste Vice President Alexander Kueper expressed support for Air New Zealand's efforts. "This supply of our Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel at Los Angeles and San Francisco airports is another great step up in our cooperation," he stated.
