American Airlines has announced a series of adjustments to its network, including the introduction of five new routes. Three of these routes will originate from New York's LaGuardia Airport (LGA). The airline also plans to cut one route and adjust its wide-body deployment strategy.

The Fort Worth-based carrier confirmed plans to launch new routes from LaGuardia to Bozeman, Montana; Calgary, Alberta; and Kalispell, Montana. These Saturday-only services will begin on June 7 and run through August 30. A Boeing 737 MAX 8 will be used for these flights, featuring 16 first-class seats, 24 Main Cabin Extra seats, and 132 standard economy seats. The flight to Kalispell will become the longest from LaGuardia at 2,035 miles.

American is utilizing LaGuardia's "perimeter rule" exception for Saturday flights to operate these routes beyond the typical distance restrictions. This approach aims to attract leisure travelers during summer weekends.

"In summer 2025, American will launch five new routes to help connect customers with their favorite outdoor destinations," an American spokesperson stated.

In addition to the LaGuardia routes, American will introduce two more Saturday-only services next summer: Chicago to Halifax starting June 21 through October 4, and Dallas/Fort Worth to Quebec operating from August 9 through November 1. Both will use Embraer E175 regional jets.

As part of these changes, American is discontinuing its short route between LaGuardia and Philadelphia effective June 5. An American spokesperson commented on this decision: "As part of a continuous evaluation of our network, American will discontinue service between New York (LGA) and Philadelphia (PHL)."

The airline is also adjusting its schedule due to delays in receiving Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. Changes include postponing the restart of Chicago-Paris flights from April to May and reducing Miami-Buenos Aires service in April while suspending Miami-Paris service in May.

"As a result of ongoing Boeing 787 delivery delays," an American statement explained, "we are adjusting service on certain routes in spring 2025."

To compensate for these adjustments, American extended its Chicago-Barcelona service until October as part of network optimization.
