A collaboration between Gulfstream and Israeli Aerospace Industries (IAI) has resulted in the creation of the Gulfstream G280, a twin-engine business jet that has gained popularity in private aviation. The partnership began in 2005 with the aim of developing an advanced medium-sized business jet to succeed the Gulfstream 200.

The design process took approximately four years, during which numerous modifications were made to enhance performance, reliability, and comfort. The G280 first flew on December 11, 2009, and deliveries commenced in 2012. Today, over 200 units are operational worldwide.

The aircraft's development spanned seven years and was initially known as the G250 before being renamed to appeal to the Chinese market. "In Mandarin, the number 250 could be translated as 'stupid,' making the number 280 a marginally better option for a manufacturer hoping to sell aircraft in the nation."

The G280 offers a range of about 3,600 nautical miles at Mach 0.8 with four passengers onboard. It can take off from runways as short as 4,750 feet. By September 2012, it received full certification from the FAA after rigorous testing.

Designed with customer feedback in mind, the G280 features improvements over its predecessor, including enhanced cabin length and fuel efficiency due to Honeywell HTF7250G engines. The aircraft is assembled in Israel and completed in Dallas, Texas.

Although not revolutionary in technology, "the Gulfstream G280 was not a major innovation in private jet technology," it demonstrated successful international collaboration and remains a significant player in its class.
