Korean Air is celebrating 30 years since it first launched flights to China. The South Korean airline has grown its network to over 20 destinations within the country, marking this milestone with various events at airports.

On December 22, 1994, Korean Air's inaugural flight between Seoul and Beijing took place. This was soon followed by services to Tianjin and Qingdao on December 24 and Shenyang on December 27 of the same year. Currently, the airline operates 21 destinations in China across 27 routes.

To commemorate three decades of connectivity between China and South Korea, Korean Air organized events at Beijing Capital Airport and Shenyang Taoxian International on December 22. Celebrations focused on flights KE2202 from Beijing to Seoul Gimpo and KE832 from Shenyang to Seoul Incheon. Passengers received commemorative tote bags, with the 30th passenger on each flight receiving round-trip tickets for Prestige Class travel.

The celebrations will continue with similar events in Tianjin and Qingdao, focusing on flights KE806 from Tianjin to Seoul Incheon and KE846 from Qingdao-Seoul Incheon. These will be operated by a Boeing 737 and an Airbus A330 respectively.

Yohan Park, Korean Air's Regional Director for China, emphasized the importance of building stronger links between China and South Korea over the past three decades. "These past three decades have been dedicated to building stronger links between China and South Korea, with service and safety excellence as our priority," he stated. He also highlighted that "Korean Air is committed to strengthening these ties and growing our presence across China."

Korean Air has a significant presence in China's aviation market beyond its flight operations. The airline has engaged in sustainability efforts such as planting trees in Inner Mongolia's Kubuqi Desert since 2007 and providing educational resources since 2008. Humanitarian efforts have included flood relief in Hubei Province in 1998, emergency aid after the Sichuan earthquake in 2008, and medical supplies donations to Wuhan in 2020.

As of now, Korean Air's capacity on Chinese routes has nearly returned to pre-pandemic levels at about "approximately 95% of pre-pandemic capacity compared to December 2019 levels." According to Cirium data, Korean Air has scheduled over 1,600 flights between China this month alone.
