The Foundation for Aviation Safety, established by former Boeing 737 factory manager Ed Pierson, has renewed its call for a thorough investigation into the production processes at Boeing's Renton facilities. This request comes in light of the two fatal crashes involving the 737 MAX aircraft.

The foundation alleges that Jennifer Homendy, chair of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), is under criticism for not sharing new evidence related to manufacturing defects linked to these crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia. The foundation claims that a letter sent to Homendy in November contained "official" documents from Boeing and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) that were not disclosed to accident investigators following the Lion Air and Ethiopian Airlines incidents.

"The letter draws a striking comparison between the NTSB’s approach to the 737 MAX investigations and its more thorough examination of the January 2024 Alaska Airlines blowout accident," states the foundation. In July, they presented new evidence suggesting that Boeing diverted attention from its operations after these accidents but failed to do so after an incident with Alaska Airlines in January.

"The documents show that Boeing fraudulently withheld—and is currently withholding—critical evidence from the public and government investigators, including the NTSB about manufacturing-related electrical defects that played a key role in the two deadly crashes."

The foundation also points out issues with Boeing's Electrical Wiring Interconnect System (EWIS) during construction at their Renton plant. They assert that neither MCAS software nor lack of pilot training caused these accidents but instead highlight potential electrical faults identified before one crash.

"MCAS software and the lack of pilot training did not trigger these two fatal crashes. Shockingly, the documents show that Boeing suspected the new ET302 airplane had intermittent electrical faults in the airplane’s wiring before it crashed."

They argue this information is crucial today as it impacts over 1,600 active 737 MAX planes worldwide. "This new evidence should result in reopening of MAX accident investigations," aiming for improved safety measures.

Previously, when FAA proposed addressing standby power control unit failures last August, The Foundation called for grounding all 737 MAX aircraft globally. However, FAA countered this by finalizing an airworthiness directive on April 17.

Additionally, after reviewing findings from Ethiopia's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau regarding March 2019's Ethiopian Airlines crash, NTSB disputed claims about pre-existing electrical problems causing sensor failures leading up to MCAS activation.

"The US team found that erroneous AOA sensor output was caused by separation due impact with foreign object most likely bird." During their investigation process alongside EAAIB counterparts without any supportive details provided against alleged electrical issues within involved aircrafts themselves; thus leaving room
