The United States Air Force (USAF) has introduced the EA-37B Compass Call, a new electronic warfare (EW) aircraft that is set to enhance its capabilities in electronic attack and defense. This platform is built on a civilian Gulfstream G550 jet but incorporates advanced sensors, data networking, and surveillance systems.

The USAF's EW squadrons focus on gathering signals intelligence (SIGINT), disrupting enemy communications, and countering radar threats. The EA-37B offers improved speed and range over its predecessor, the EC-130H, positioning it as a crucial asset in countering emerging threats.

Colonel Mark Howard of the 55th Wing commented on the aircraft's abilities: "The EA-37B, with its increased range, speed and agility, will allow Airmen onboard the aircraft to make real-time, adaptive, agile decisions for airpower."

The Compass Call features an advanced mission suite capable of jamming enemy communication systems and radar. It provides operational advantages by disrupting adversaries' coordination efforts. According to reports from The Defense Post, this technology represents significant progress in airborne electronic warfare.

First delivered in August 2024 at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base (AFB), the fleet is expected to expand with additional units by 2025. Its design allows operation from diverse airfields while maintaining ruggedness suitable for challenging environments. NATO allies have noted its potential to bolster coalition capabilities during joint operations.

Strategically, the EA-37B exemplifies USAF's commitment to modernizing its fleet against evolving threats. The Aviationist highlights its modular system architecture as essential for adapting to future challenges within Anti-Access/Area-Denial (A2/AD) settings.

Industry collaboration was key in developing this platform. Gulfstream provided the airframe while L3Harris contributed specialized systems. BAE Systems notes that this project embodies decades of innovation in electronic warfare technology.

Despite transitioning challenges due to different systems compared to previous models, rigorous testing ensures readiness for service longevity. Air and Space Forces Magazine emphasizes that modularity will keep it relevant for decades with potential upgrades like artificial intelligence integration.
