The Cessna 404 Titan, a twin-engine light aircraft developed by Cessna Aircraft, has been notable for its versatility and various configurations. Designed in the 1970s, it was Cessna's largest twin piston-engine aircraft at the time. The prototype took flight in February 1975, with testing concluding swiftly by July 1976 when it received its Type Certificate A25CE. Deliveries commenced in October of the same year.

Equipped with two Continental Motors GTSIO-520 turbocharged piston engines producing 375 shaft horsepower each, the Titan offered both passenger and utility versions initially. Over time, three main variants emerged: the Titan Ambassador for passengers, Titan Freighter for cargo, and Titan Courier for mixed operations.

"The Cessna 404 Titan is typically configured with nine passenger seats in the cabin," noted Air Charter Service about the Ambassador variant. This model became known for its spacious interior and reliable performance, capable of carrying up to ten passengers comfortably.

GlobalAir remarked on its design: "With its robust design and twin-engine configuration, the Titan offered enhanced safety, range, and load-carrying capacity." These features made it suitable for air cargo transport and regional flights.

Another version is the Titan Courier which allows operators to switch between passenger and cargo use efficiently. It featured improvements such as low-speed stall characteristics and a structurally stable wing design.

The dedicated cargo variant, known as the Titan Freighter, was designed with specialized fittings for freight transport. It utilized impact-resistant materials to withstand potential damage during loading or transit.

A unique adaptation of this aircraft was used by the United States Navy under the designation Titan C-28A. This military version featured specific modifications suited to their operational needs.

According to Air Charter Service regarding its performance in harsh conditions: "The 404 Titan can fly in icy conditions...similar conditions as a Boeing 737."

Despite production ceasing in 1982, civilian operators like Aero Logistics and East Coast Airlines continue to use this versatile aircraft today. Military forces including those from Bolivia and Colombia also employ various versions of this model.
