British Airways has been forced to make significant adjustments to its long-haul network due to ongoing issues with the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines. These challenges have led to the cancellation of several routes, including flights from London Heathrow Airport (LHR) to Abu Dhabi Zayed International Airport (AUH). The airline informed its travel partners on December 17 that it would suspend these flights between March 30, 2025, and October 25, 2025.

In response to the suspension, British Airways is offering alternative options for passengers. Customers can be rebooked onto Etihad Airways flights to Abu Dhabi or on British Airways flights from London-Heathrow to Dubai International Airport (DXB), where three daily flights are scheduled. Another option includes Qatar Airways flights from Heathrow to Doha Hamad International Airport (DOH), which will operate up to nine daily services during this period.

The route cancellations also affected Bahrain International Airport (BAH). Initially canceled on November 7 for all of 2025, British Airways later announced on November 21 that it would reinstate three weekly flights between London-Heathrow and Bahrain from March through October 2025. This is a reduction compared to the daily itineraries offered in the same period in 2024.

Additionally, British Airways has postponed the launch of its planned route to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) until April 2025. Flights from Heathrow to Dallas-Fort/Worth International Airport (DFW) and Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) have also been impacted by engine supply delays. The airline will maintain double-daily services to Delhi but plans an increase in weekly frequencies during July and August 2025.

The issues with Rolls-Royce engines have prompted British Airways' parent company, International Airlines Group (IAG), to order GE Aerospace GEnx engines for six Boeing 787 aircraft at the Farnborough International Airshow in July. This marks a shift from using Trent 1000 engines to GEnx for their fleet.

"We've taken this action because we do not believe the issue will be solved quickly, and we want to offer our customers the certainty they deserve for their travel plans," stated a representative from British Airways regarding these operational changes.
