The commercial aviation sector, known for its modern advancements, also embraces nostalgia through retro liveries. European airlines have been particularly active in adopting these vintage designs, offering a glimpse into aviation history.

Lufthansa's Boeing 747-8 is one such example. The airline operates scheduled passenger flights with this model and has painted one of its aircraft, registered as D-ABYT, in a retro livery reminiscent of its early 747s from the 1970s. This plane has been flying since March 2015, with a brief storage period during the pandemic.

British Airways celebrated its centenary in 2019 by introducing several retro liveries. While most were on Boeing 747s that are now retired, an Airbus A319-100 registered as G-EUPJ remains active. It features a design inspired by British European Airways from the mid-20th century.

Irish airline Aer Lingus marked its 75th anniversary with a special livery on an Airbus A320-200 registered as EI-DVM. The design aligns with the airline's first flight anniversary in May 1936 and includes traditional elements like a shamrock tail logo.

Romanian carrier TAROM also commemorated an anniversary with a special design for its Boeing 737-700 registered as YR-BGG. Introduced for the airline's 55th anniversary in December 2008, the livery has seen minor updates over time to mark subsequent anniversaries.

Lastly, KLM celebrated its 90th birthday with a retro livery on a Boeing 737-800 registered as PH-BXA. This aircraft had previously worn promotional colors for the UEFA Euro 2000 tournament before adopting the nostalgic stripes that it retained until January 2018.

These liveries not only celebrate historical milestones but also engage passengers by evoking memories of past aviation eras.
