Asia has emerged as the dominant region in the rankings of the busiest flight routes for 2024, according to data from travel company OAG. The region is home to seven out of the ten busiest international routes this year.

The top international route is between Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) and Taipei Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), with a 48% increase in seats compared to last year. Despite having 15% fewer seats than in 2019, it leads by a large margin. The second busiest route connects Cairo International Airport (CAI) and Jeddah King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED), showing a significant rise with 62% more seats than in 2019.

Other busy international routes include Seoul Incheon International Airport (ICN) to Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT), Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) to Singapore Changi Airport (SIN), and Dubai International Airport (DXB) to Riyadh King Khalid International Airport (RUH). The only US route on the list is from New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to London Heathrow Airport (LHR).

In domestic rankings, Asia also takes the lead, with South Korea's Jeju International Airport (CJU) to Seoul Gimpo International Airport (GMP) being the busiest route with 14.1 million seats. Japan follows closely with routes such as New Chitose Airport (CTS) to Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND). Australia's Melbourne-Sydney route also makes an appearance.

In North America, Vancouver-Toronto is the busiest domestic route, surpassing Atlanta-Orlando, which had 3.4 million scheduled seats this year.

OAG noted that "domestic flights from Jeddah to Riyadh experienced the most growth," highlighting significant increases in seat availability on various key routes globally.
