Winter travel has been disrupted for passengers flying out of Dallas Love Field (DAL) and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) due to dense fog and severe thunderstorms in the greater Dallas area. These weather conditions come just after the Christmas holiday, affecting one of the busiest travel days of the year.

Dallas Love Field, primarily serving Southwest Airlines, has been under a ground stop since 8:30 AM today. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) initially set this to expire at 12:30 PM local time, but there is a high likelihood it will be extended. Current delays average over 60 minutes and are expected to increase throughout the day.

Similarly, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, a major hub for American Airlines, has also experienced significant delays with an ongoing ground stop set to expire at 1 PM local time. Average delays here range up to 131 minutes.

Passengers traveling through these airports should anticipate heavy delays and possible cancellations. Those on connecting itineraries may need to consider alternative routes that bypass Dallas altogether.

Flight tracking website FlightAware reports that DFW leads the nation in flight cancellations and delays, with DAL not far behind. As of 12:30 PM local time, DFW had delayed 168 flights and canceled 53. At Love Field, 42 flights faced significant delays.

The majority of affected flights are operated by American Airlines and Southwest Airlines. Passengers are advised to check their flight status before heading to the airport.
