TAAG Angola Airlines has finalized a sale-and-leaseback agreement with AerCap for a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. The aircraft is expected to join TAAG's fleet in February 2025, marking a significant step in the airline's fleet modernization plan. Aengus Kelly, CEO of AerCap, expressed satisfaction with the deal: "We are pleased to welcome TAAG Angola Airlines as a new customer to AerCap and particularly pleased to be the first lessor to introduce the 787 to the airline."

In October 2023, TAAG announced plans to acquire four 787 Dreamliners through similar arrangements. This transaction with AerCap is their first collaboration, and it positions AerCap as a key partner in TAAG's expansion strategy across Africa, Europe, and Asia.

TAAG will eventually operate both the 787-9 and 787-10 models. The second 787-9 is anticipated next summer, while delivery dates for two 787-10s remain unconfirmed. In addition to its Boeing acquisitions, TAAG recently added an Airbus A220-300 from Air Lease Corp (ALC) and expects two more by next summer.

The Angolan carrier has secured support from Lufthansa Technik for its Dreamliners under a Total Component Support agreement spanning 12 years. Nelson de Oliveira, CEO of TAAG, highlighted this partnership: "With two types of modern aircraft joining our fleet at almost the same time, we are pleased to be able to count on the recognized engineering expertise and vast technical capacity that Lufthansa Technik's specialists offer."

TAAG's current long-haul fleet includes eight Boeing 777s and nine Boeing 737s. The airline also operates six De Havilland Dash 8 turboprops for regional services. It has committed to acquiring up to fifteen A220s as part of its strategy to replace older aircraft models.
