The three leading airlines in Australia—Virgin Australia, Jetstar, and Qantas—have launched substantial Boxing Day sales on both domestic and international flights. The promotions began on December 26, offering hundreds of thousands of seats at reduced prices. These deals are available for a limited time, encouraging travelers to act swiftly.

Virgin Australia is focusing on discounted international travel. "Boxing Day is synonymous with deals - and for Virgin Australia, it's about giving our customers the freedom to explore more of Australia and beyond for less," said Virgin Australia Executive Libby Minogue to Australia's Sky News. The airline's sale includes destinations such as New Zealand, Fiji, Vanuatu, Bali, and Samoa. Domestic routes like the Whitsundays and Gold Coast are also part of the promotion. Tickets must be booked by December 29 or until they sell out.

Jetstar has introduced budget-friendly fares starting at $39 one-way. The airline's offer ends on December 27 at 11:59 pm AEDT or when all seats are sold. The focus is primarily on domestic routes within Queensland, Tasmania, and New South Wales.

Qantas is participating with discounts on over 800,000 seats across domestic and international routes. Prices begin at $109 for one-way flights. Their sale continues until December 28 at 11:59 pm AEDT.

These Boxing Day sales follow Virgin Australia's recent announcement of a new partnership with Qatar Airways set to commence in June 2025. This collaboration aims to expand options for Australians traveling internationally.

Boxing Day is celebrated on December 26 in several Commonwealth countries including Australia. Traditionally associated with charity and gift-giving to service workers, it has evolved into a major shopping event featuring significant discounts.
