US airlines are remembering former President Jimmy Carter, who died on December 29, 2024, at the age of 100. United Airlines shared a photo of Carter aboard "Peanut One," a Boeing 727-200 used during his 1976 campaign. Delta Air Lines also paid tribute with a video showing Carter shaking hands with passengers on one of their flights.

United Airlines highlighted its historical connection to Carter by posting an image from his campaign days when he traveled in the aircraft known as "Peanut One," reflecting his background as a peanut farmer. This Boeing 727-200, registered N7635U and manufactured in 1968, served United until it was converted to a freighter in 1993. It continued flying for Emery Worldwide before being retired by Custom Air Transport in 2007.

Interestingly, the pilot during Carter's campaign was Captain James K. 'Jimmy' Carter, who flew over 18,000 hours for United before retiring in 1992.

Delta Air Lines joined the tributes with a statement about Georgia's former governor and posted a video clip capturing President Carter greeting each passenger on board. The airline emphasized his character: "Every time Jimmy Carter flew Delta, he shook hands with each person on the plane."

The Airline Deregulation Act of 1978 is one of President Carter's significant contributions to aviation history. This act allowed airlines more freedom regarding routes and fares.

The Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum also honored President Carter by sharing an image of him aboard Air Force One, which now resides at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library alongside other presidential aircraft.
