Silver Airways, a regional airline based in Florida, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The airline operates flights within Florida and to the Caribbean using ATR turboprop planes. This filing follows Spirit Airlines' recent bankruptcy.

The filing was made in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida. Silver Airways aims to restructure its finances and address financial challenges. The company plans to complete this process by early 2025.

In an official statement, Silver Airways said, "We want to share an important step Silver Airways has taken to ensure a sustainable future for our company. Today, we voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 protection in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida. This decision will allow us to secure additional capital and undertake a financial restructuring that will strengthen our position as a competitive airline, ultimately benefiting you—our valued customers."

The airline reassured stakeholders that operations would continue as usual during this period. All tickets remain valid, and passengers can still book flights through various channels. Services related to United and JetBlue loyalty programs will not be disrupted.

Silver Airways began operations in 2011 after Gulfstream International Airlines filed for bankruptcy. It operates eight ATR 42-600 aircraft and six ATR 72-600 planes, with some currently inactive.

The carrier also flies major routes within Florida and several destinations in the Caribbean, including Key West, Orlando, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, Georgetown, Nassau, and more.

In 2018, Silver acquired Seaborne Airlines from Puerto Rico expanding its network further into the Caribbean region.
