As the world prepares to welcome 2025, an unusual aviation event is set to occur. According to data from Cirium, 47 flights globally are scheduled to take off at precisely 23:59 on New Year's Eve. This timing creates a unique situation where passengers will cross into the new year while in flight.

These flights span both domestic and international routes and result from the intricate nature of airline scheduling rather than any deliberate celebration. "Despite the fact that many airports will be crowded with vacationers, the exact schedule of these flights highlights the complexity of international scheduling," notes an observation in this context.

Among long-haul international flights, Iberia leads with departures from Madrid Barajas Airport (MAD) to Santiago (SCL), Buenos Aires (EZE), and Montevideo (MVD). Alaska Airlines contributes several transcontinental and Hawaii services, including a route from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR).

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines maintains its presence in Africa with flights from Cape Town (CPT), Dar es Salaam (DAR), and Nairobi (NBO) heading to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS). Thai Airways offers a significant route between Bangkok (BKK) and Osaka-Kansai (KIX).

Delta Air Lines has a late-night flight from Quito (UIO) to Atlanta (ATL), emphasizing connections between South America and major US hubs.

In terms of domestic routes within the United States, Alaska Airlines operates a Kona (KOA) to Anchorage (ANC) service. American Airlines provides additional options like Seattle to Charlotte.

United Airlines has two notable domestic services departing at 23:59: one from Lihue to San Francisco and another from Anchorage to Denver.

Low-cost carriers like Spirit Airlines continue their operations with a Lima to Fort Lauderdale service among others. The shortest flight listed is Kenya Airways' route connecting Nairobi with Mombasa over just 262 miles using an Embraer E90 aircraft.

This array of flights underscores airlines' efforts in maintaining efficient schedules amid high demand for travel during this festive period.
