Navigating the complexities of flying from New York-area airports requires awareness of various local peculiarities, such as transportation options and airport services. The region is home to three major airports: John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), LaGuardia Airport (LGA), and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). Each offers unique benefits and challenges for travelers.

According to Travel + Leisure, selecting an airport should begin with evaluating route availability, price, and connections. "The first step is to analyze the routes and airline availability that would match journey preferences," they advise.

For JFK, travelers can use shuttle trains from Grand Central Station or AirTrain from Jamaica and Howard Beach. The subway remains a cheaper option but involves multiple stops. LGA lacks direct train access, necessitating buses or taxis. "A taxi or a bus can be taken into account," although these may be more expensive.

Newark Airport provides connections via NJ Transit with transfers using AirTrain. EWR serves over 30 airlines on domestic and international routes, making it an attractive option for those traveling from western Manhattan or New Jersey.

LaGuardia has undergone renovations enhancing its infrastructure and accessibility from areas like Bronx, Manhattan, and Brooklyn. It mainly serves domestic routes but offers Delta Shuttle services to cities like Washington DC.

JFK stands out as NYC's primary international hub with more than 90 airlines offering extensive global connections. Its strategic location allows easy access by various transport modes from Manhattan's east side, Brooklyn, or Queens.

Despite each airport's distinct features, passengers have flexible choices among JFK, LGA, and EWR regarding transportation mode, price policy, destination options, and non-aviation services.
