FlightGlobal has released its 2025 report on world air forces, offering a comprehensive overview of the most active military aircraft by type. The report highlights that many of the most common aircraft are of US origin, with the United States Air Force remaining the largest in the world.

The Chengdu J-7, a third-generation fighter jet from China, is noted as the most common in its category with around 650 units in service. The F-16, a fourth-generation fighter jet from the United States, leads its class with approximately 2,084 units worldwide. Lockheed Martin's F-35 Lightning II dominates among fifth-generation fighters with over 712 units in service.

The KC-135 Stratotanker remains the backbone of aerial refueling operations globally, while the C-130 Hercules family continues to be a vital tactical airlifter for many countries. The C-17 Globemaster III is recognized as the most common strategic airlifter.

Helicopters such as the UH-60 Black Hawk and AH-64 Apache are highlighted for their widespread use. In training aircraft, the T-6 Texan II is noted as being particularly prevalent.

The EA-18G Growler stands out as a significant electronic warfare asset for the US Navy. The report underscores how these aircraft types continue to play critical roles within various air forces worldwide.
