Airlines and airports globally have been striving to maintain on-time performance for their passengers. Cirium, an aviation analytics company, has released data highlighting the top airlines and airports in 2024 for punctuality.

Latin American carriers dominated the list of top ten on-time performers, with Mexico's national airline leading. In contrast, the highest-performing airports were situated in the Middle East, North America, and South America.

Aeromexico topped the global ranking as the most punctual "Global Airline" in 2024 with an on-time performance (OTP) rate of 86.70%. The Mexican airline consistently ranked highly throughout the year. According to Cirium, "an on-time flight is defined as a flight that arrives within 14:59 minutes of the scheduled gate arrival time."

Saudia followed Aeromexico closely with an OTP of 86.35%, while Delta Air Lines from the US took third place globally at 83.46%, continuing its leadership in North America.

Despite facing significant operational challenges due to IT issues causing $500 million in damages, Delta Air Lines maintained its position for a fourth consecutive year and received Cirium's Platinum Award for global operational excellence.

Jeremy Bowen, CEO of Cirium, commented on these achievements: "2024 was a difficult year for airlines, facing a large-scale IT outage and unseasonable severe weather patterns. Despite these challenges, these airlines and airports have worked tirelessly to ensure their customers have a smooth journey and reach their destination on time."

In terms of airport performances, Riyadh King Khalid International Airport led with an OTP of 86.65%. Lima Jorge Chavez International Airport followed with an OTP of 84.57%, while Mexico City Benito Juarez International Airport ranked third at 84.04%.

Regionally within Europe, Iberia Express led with an OTP of 84.69%, while Norwegian rounded out the top five at 79.23%. In North America, Delta Airlines again took first place regionally at 83.46%.

The Asia-Pacific region saw Japanese carriers leading; Japan Airlines achieved an OTP of 80.90%. Latin America's Copa Airlines had an impressive OTP rate of 88.22%.

In the Middle East and Africa regions, Safair topped with a remarkable OTP rate of 93.82%.
