Breeze Airways has announced its decision to discontinue flights from Mobile International Airport in Alabama by the end of January 2025. The airline currently offers the only nonstop service from this airport, with a route to Orlando, Florida.

Breeze Airways started its operations at Mobile International in April 2024, taking over from Avelo Airlines. Both airlines have been known for connecting underserved routes through secondary regional airports. Unlike major carriers that operate from Mobile Regional Airport, Breeze and Avelo chose the downtown location.

The service to Orlando was initially launched on April 10th, 2024, making Mobile the 49th city served by Breeze in the United States. Currently operating on Fridays and Mondays, tickets are no longer available for dates beyond January 31st, 2025.

A spokesperson for Breeze Airways stated: "Effective January 31, 2025, Breeze will suspend service from Mobile International Airport (BFM). We see a lot of promise in Mobile and the surrounding area, so while there is currently no estimated timeline for resuming service at BFM, we hope to return as we continue to grow."

The spokesperson also mentioned efforts to assist affected passengers: "We are working with our Guests who have been impacted by this change to issue full refunds or serve them from one of our nearby airports in the meantime."

Despite leaving Mobile International Airport, Breeze will maintain its presence in Alabama through Huntsville International Airport. The airline plans to increase flight frequencies there this year.

The withdrawal is not expected to be permanent. The Mobile Airport Authority intends to shift all commercial services from Mobile Regional Airport to Mobile International by early 2026. This move aims to recapture passenger traffic that currently travels outside the region for direct flights.

Mobile Downtown Airport's new terminal construction is underway and includes five gates with potential expansion capabilities. This development is part of a broader plan that envisions enhanced transportation options and an Amtrak station near the site.
