United Airlines has announced the temporary closure of its Polaris Lounge at Chicago O'Hare International Airport for expansion work. This development follows the airline's earlier confirmation of the project to The Points Guy about five months ago.

The renovation aims to enhance the lounge with more premium space and amenities, including workspaces, restrooms, and private seating. The upgrade will increase the lounge's area from 16,000 to 25,000 square feet. The renovation began in September 2024 when the lounge was partially closed. United plans to reopen it in spring 2026 before the busy summer travel season.

Currently located in Concourse C near Gate C18, this Polaris Lounge is one of several United lounges at O'Hare. While closed, eligible passengers can access United Club services available in Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.

Polaris lounges are exclusive spaces designed for long-haul international travelers flying with United Airlines or Star Alliance partners on premium tickets. These lounges are known for their upscale dining options and spa-like facilities that include showers and daybeds.

Access to these lounges is limited to United Polaris business class ticket holders on international flights and first or business class passengers on Star Alliance member airlines with a same-day boarding pass.

The ongoing renovations reflect an industry trend where airlines are upgrading their elite offerings amidst increasing crowding in airport lounges.
