Hundreds of JetBlue passengers faced significant disruption when their flight from Turks and Caicos to Boston was delayed for over 24 hours. The delay occurred on December 28, 2024, due to the inbound aircraft being diverted to Fort Lauderdale because of heavy air traffic control congestion. As a result, the plane could not reach Providenciales International Airport in time.

The flight, originally scheduled for Saturday, eventually departed at 16:14 on Sunday, December 29, 2024. During this period, passengers were informed that the airport would close for the night and they had to leave without assistance or accommodation offers from JetBlue staff.

Marty, a passenger traveling with his family, described the situation as "unsettling" and "traumatizing," especially since he had no immediate solution for sheltering his family overnight. Another passenger, Brett, recounted how he found accommodations in an undesirable area after being forced out of the airport.

JetBlue attributed the delay to factors beyond its control and apologized for the inconvenience caused. The airline stated it would reimburse affected passengers for eligible expenses and provide $200 in travel credit as compensation.

This incident follows a recent $2 million fine imposed on JetBlue by the US Department of Transportation due to delays between June 2022 and November 2023. The airline has invested significantly in efforts to reduce delays caused by air traffic control issues and urged government action on this matter.
