Delta Air Lines is set to expand its transatlantic services this summer by increasing the number of flights between Atlanta Hartfield Jackson International Airport and Athens International Airport. The airline will boost its weekly flights from 11 to 13, according to aviation analytics company Cirium.

This expansion is part of Delta's broader strategy to enhance its presence in Europe. In September 2024, the airline announced plans for a significant transatlantic expansion, which includes several new European routes and increased frequencies on existing ones. Notably, Delta will also debut a connection to Catania, Italy, in May 2025.

The flight schedule reveals that Delta will operate two daily flights between Atlanta and Athens during peak summer months, except on Tuesdays. The carrier plans to use Airbus A330-900 aircraft for these operations instead of the larger Airbus A350-900 used previously.

Delta's data indicates it will conduct 168 flights from June through August 2025, offering a total of 47,208 seats. This represents an increase compared to last year's figures of 92 flights and 31,188 seats during the same period.

The airline currently operates a fleet of relatively young Airbus A330neos with an average age of 2.8 years. These aircraft can accommodate up to 281 passengers across four classes: business class, premium economy, economy plus, and economy class.

Delta initially introduced the A330neo in May 2019 as a replacement for its older A330 models. The aircraft has been deployed on various international routes from Delta's hubs across the United States.

According to Airbus specifications, the A330-900 model has a range capability of up to 8,285 miles. However, Delta's longest route using this aircraft is significantly shorter at just over 6,000 miles.

Simple Flying has reached out to Delta Air Lines for further comments regarding this expansion plan.
