As Winter Storm Blair moves across the Central and Eastern United States, airlines are issuing travel waivers to passengers on affected flights. The storm is considered the first major winter storm of the season in the US, bringing a blast of polar air that has dropped temperatures to nearly -20 degrees Celsius in some areas.

The storm developed over the Rocky Mountains and moved eastward along the polar jet stream, leaving parts of the Great Plains covered in over a foot of snow. By Sunday, more than 50 million Americans were under weather advisories due to the storm's impact.

Denver International Airport experienced significant disruptions with over 600 flight delays and 100 cancellations caused by dense fog and snow. Airports such as Saint Louis, Cincinnati, Philadelphia, and Washington DC's three major airports are directly in the path of the storm.

United Airlines allows passengers flying to or from cities like Cincinnati, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Lincoln, and others to rebook their flights without change fees if they travel before January 13th. This offer also extends to travelers from 11 Mid-Atlantic region airports including Nashville and Washington DC area airports.

Delta Air Lines is waiving change fees for similar cities as United Airlines but includes Philadelphia International Airport despite its lower expected snowfall. Travelers must rebook by January 10th.

American Airlines offers free flight changes for passengers traveling to Syracuse and Buffalo due to low visibility warnings related to Lake Snow Effect conditions. American Airlines provides rebooking options for passengers flying to a larger number of cities compared to other major airlines if they travel by January 9th.
