Delta Air Lines is set to expand its transatlantic service between Atlanta and Edinburgh this summer, marking a record operation for the Scottish capital. The airline plans to operate 10 weekly flights from early June to September, utilizing Boeing 767-300ER aircraft. This increase comes after Delta resumed its seasonal service in May 2023.

According to Cirium Diio data, Delta first launched the Atlanta-Edinburgh route in June 2006 but discontinued it shortly after due to the Global Financial Crisis. The service was reintroduced in May 2023 and will now begin earlier on April 15, 2025, with four weekly flights before increasing to daily operations by late May.

In August, Delta's schedule includes two departures from Edinburgh within an hour: one at 09:00 and another at 10:00. The aircraft for the earlier flight will be the same that arrives from Boston.

The US Department of Transportation reports that Delta filled an average of 92% of seats on this route between May 2023 and September 2024. Approximately three-quarters of passengers connected through Atlanta to other destinations such as Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville, Memphis, St Louis, New Orleans, Los Angeles, Kansas City, Birmingham, and Nashville.

Edinburgh Airport anticipates up to a record-breaking number of transatlantic flights this summer with up to 95 weekly departures planned for mid-August. This marks a significant increase from previous years—up from just 46 flights before the pandemic in August 2019.

Several airlines have shifted their services from Glasgow to Edinburgh in recent years. In addition to Delta's expanded service, JetBlue will introduce a second route from Boston starting in May. American Airlines will also return with daily flights to Philadelphia after last operating there in 2019.

Other scheduled routes include United Airlines' daily services to Chicago O'Hare and Washington Dulles; WestJet's connections to Calgary and Halifax; Virgin Atlantic's twice-weekly Orlando flights; Air Canada's daily Toronto service; and double-daily Newark operations by United.
