Frontier Airlines is expanding its operations at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) with the introduction of three new routes. The Denver-based ultra-low-cost carrier announced on Tuesday that it will begin flights from JFK to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) starting April 22, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) starting May 1, and Miami International Airport (MIA) starting March 30.

The flights to Los Angeles and Miami will operate daily, while service to Dallas/Fort Worth will be available four days a week. Frontier's new offerings face competition from other carriers on these routes, but the airline's introductory fares are notably lower. Flights to Miami start at $19, Dallas/Fort Worth at $29, and Los Angeles at $49.

"Of course, Frontier's entry-level intro fares don't include bags or seat assignments," noted Zach Griff of The Points Guy. However, these low prices might increase demand in these markets and potentially drive down fares offered by other airlines.

Frontier began operating out of JFK last June and has since expanded its destinations to five cities: Atlanta, Las Vegas, Orlando, Tampa, and San Juan, Puerto Rico. The decision to enter JFK was unexpected due to the airport's high operational costs and limited availability of slots for new entrants.

One notable addition is the route to Los Angeles, which is highly competitive among premium cabin services offered by American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and JetBlue Airways. While Frontier's upcoming first-class-style seats won't match the lie-flat options provided by competitors on this route, they aim to offer a domestic first-class experience.

The JFK-Los Angeles route will become the longest in Frontier’s network at 2,475 miles according to Cirium schedules. Currently, Frontier’s longest flight is from Atlanta to San Francisco at 2,445 miles.

Flights from JFK to DFW and Miami will also compete against American Airlines' hub-to-hub service on those routes as well as Delta’s services. JetBlue recently exited the JFK-Miami market.
