Cathay Pacific is set to resume flights to Rome this summer, marking its second destination in Italy and 12th in Europe. The airline announced it will launch a thrice-weekly service from Hong Kong to Rome Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci Airport starting June 12. This move complements the existing flights to Milan Malpensa Airport, which are currently operating five times per week and will increase to daily services during the summer.

The airline emphasized the significance of returning to Rome in 2025 as the city celebrates the Catholic Church’s Jubilee, an event that occurs every 25 years. Lavinia Lau, Cathay Pacific's chief customer and commercial officer, stated, “We know our customers have been eagerly anticipating the return of this route, and we are delighted to be returning to Italy’s marvellous capital this summer.”

Cathay Pacific will operate the route with Airbus A350-900 aircraft, offering fully flat beds in business class and spacious seating options in premium economy and economy class. The flight schedule indicates that CX293 will depart Hong Kong at 00:45 local time and arrive in Rome at 7:50 local time. The return flight, CX292, is scheduled to leave Rome at 11:45 and reach Hong Kong by 5:20 the following day.

Before suspending services due to the pandemic in February 2020, Cathay Pacific operated flights between Hong Kong and Rome daily during summer months. In its efforts for post-pandemic recovery, Cathay Pacific aims to expand its global passenger network significantly by announcing new destinations such as Hyderabad, Dallas, Munich, Brussels, and Sendai throughout 2025.

The company aims for both Cathay Pacific and HK Express to collectively serve 100 destinations by year-end. According to a report from 2019 before subsidiary Cathay Dragon ceased operations, they had operated flights to 119 points globally.
