On January 9, a light business jet crashed while attempting to land in Ubatuba, Brazil. The Cessna CitationJet family aircraft was trying to land at Gastao Madeira State Airport when it lost control and slid off the runway. The incident resulted in the death of the pilot, with four passengers hospitalized and several pedestrians injured.

The crash occurred on a wet runway during degraded weather conditions, as reported by Rede Voa, which manages the airport. "The weather conditions were degraded, with rain and a wet runway," stated Rede Voa.

The flight had departed from Mineiros Municipal Airport earlier that day. At around 11:20 local time, the aircraft landed but slid into surrounding grass and finally came to rest in shallow water at Baia de Ubatuba.

Emergency crews responded immediately, and an investigation has been launched by the Center for the Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (CENIPA).

This crash is the second private aviation incident recently in Brazil. In December, a Piper PA-42 Cheyenne crashed near Canela Airport in Gramado, resulting in ten fatalities and significant damage.

The Cessna CJ1+ involved was registered as PR-GFS and built in 2008. Part of Cessna's CitationJet series introduced after FAA certification in 1992, this model features two Williams FJ44 turbofan engines providing nearly 2,000 pounds of thrust each.
