Frontier Airlines is set to expand its operations with a new route from New York's JFK Airport to Los Angeles International Airport, beginning May 1. This will mark Frontier's longest route at 2,151 nautical miles, surpassing its Orlando-San Francisco and JFK-Las Vegas routes in terms of distance and block time. The service comes nearly a year after Frontier's debut at JFK with flights to San Juan on June 6, 2024.

The airline joins American, Delta, and JetBlue in serving the popular JFK-Los Angeles route. "JFK-Los Angeles: F92503, 11:00-14:11 (6h 11m block time)" and "Los Angeles-JFK: F92504, 21:20-06:00+1 (5h 40m)" are the scheduled times for the new service.

Frontier becomes the first carrier to initiate this route since United Airlines ceased operations in October 2022. Alaska Airlines also dropped the route in October 2021 after inheriting it from Virgin America. Spirit Airlines has not previously served this route but operates Newark-Los Angeles flights.

Once Frontier enters the market, data indicates that there will be up to 33 daily take-offs between JFK and Los Angeles in each direction. This number reflects historical highs when up to 41 daily departures were recorded in August 2015.

On May 1, when Frontier begins its service, multiple airlines will operate flights from JFK to Los Angeles throughout the day. The carriers' schedule submissions show an average of about 163 seats per flight for May—a slight increase compared to past averages over two decades.
