A recent filing by the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) has unveiled the flight schedules for beyond-perimeter flights from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. These slots were awarded to five airlines in December 2024, namely Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines.

The DOT's filing on January 8 detailed that these airlines will operate flights between 08:00 and 21:00 Eastern Standard Time (EST). The Department stated, "In assigning these times, the Department is adhering to the statutory requirements of [specific regulatory provisions], and also seeking to ensure that the new operations are conducted in a manner consistent with the benefits assessed by the Department for each proposal."

However, it was noted that these times indicate only the hourly periods during which slot exemptions must be operated but not precise arrival and departure times. Further consultations between airlines and the Federal Aviation Administration’s Slot Administration Office may be necessary before launching services.

The assigned time slots are as follows:

- Alaska Airlines: 08:00 – 21:00

- American Airlines: 10:00 – 19:00

- Delta Air Lines: 12:00 – 14:00

- Southwest Airlines: 12:00 – 14:00

- United Airlines: 07:00 – 20:00

The DOT emphasized that any changes to schedules at DCA would need evaluation by the FAA Slot Administration Office. The airlines must commence services on awarded routes no later than March 17.

These carriers plan to connect Washington-Reagan with San Diego International Airport (SAN), San Antonio International Airport (SAT), Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS), and San Francisco International Airport (SFO). Notably, Southwest’s flights from Washington-Reagan to Las Vegas will continue to Sacramento without requiring passengers to change aircraft.

The DOT warned that failure to start services or meet requirements could lead to withdrawal of slot exemptions. All five airlines have announced their intentions regarding these routes. For instance, Alaska Airlines plans its inaugural flight from San Diego on March 17. American Airlines will begin its service from San Antonio on March 2. Delta Air Lines will launch its Seattle route on March 9. Southwest's connection via Las Vegas starts February 13, transitioning to daily service by March 6. United is expected to operate two daily flights between San Francisco and Washington-Reagan starting in February.

Despite some objections from other carriers like Frontier and Spirit regarding this slot allocation at DCA, these developments mark significant expansions for the involved airlines.
