Delta Air Lines is set to replace the Boeing 767-300ER aircraft on its Honolulu-Salt Lake City route with the Airbus A330-300, as reported by aviation analytics company Cirium. This transition, which will occur from March to June, aims to enhance passenger experiences and improve operational efficiency.

Alongside the fleet change, Delta will reduce its flight frequency to a daily service. According to Beat of Hawaii, this move demonstrates Delta's commitment to Hawaii travel by introducing updated wide-body aircraft with new technology-driven amenities.

Starting in March 2025, Delta will maintain Boeing 767-300ER operations on the Honolulu-Salt Lake City route for a total of 60 flights in each direction. In April, the airline will begin phasing out the 767s and introduce a mix of 767-300ER and Airbus A330-300 aircraft. The new A330-300 offers better fuel efficiency and increased passenger capacity.

By May, Delta plans to fully transition to operating only Airbus A330-300s on this route. The airline will operate 62 flights that month compared to 86 flights in April as it shifts to a daily schedule. Despite fewer flights, Delta aims to maintain strong service levels.

In June, Delta will exclusively use the Airbus A330-300 for this route while continuing its daily service. This model offers modern amenities and improved fuel efficiency that align with growing travel demand.

Key flight schedules between Salt Lake City and Honolulu include DL316 departing Salt Lake City at 11:15 am and arriving in Honolulu at 2:00 pm, and DL534 departing Honolulu at 7:10 pm and arriving in Salt Lake City at 5:25 am. Hawaiian Airlines also serves this route using the narrowbody Airbus A321neo.

The decision to switch from Boeing 767-300ERs was influenced by several factors such as cabin modernization, enhanced fuel efficiency, and greater capacity offered by the Airbus A330-300. As per Planespotters.net data, Delta has an average fleet age of 16 years for their A330-300s compared to nearly three decades for their older 767 models.

Delta's Chief Financial Officer Dan Janki announced in January 2024 that the airline intends to retire its Boeing 767 fleet by the end of this decade in favor of more efficient aircraft like the Airbus A350-1000.
