STARLUX Airlines, a Taiwan-based carrier, has expanded its order for Airbus A350F cargo aircraft by five units. This addition complements the airline's previous order from February 2024, bringing its total backlog to ten A350Fs.

Glenn Chai, CEO of STARLUX Airlines, emphasized the importance of the cargo market in the airline’s future plans. "The A350F is the perfect choice for STARLUX," he stated, highlighting its efficiency in fuel consumption and carbon emissions compared to older models.

Benoît de Saint-Exupéry from Airbus Commercial Aircraft expressed appreciation for STARLUX's continued trust in their products. He remarked that this second order is an endorsement of the A350F as a future leader in heavy lift markets.

In addition to the initial five A350Fs ordered in February 2024, STARLUX also purchased three A330-900 aircraft for long-haul operations. Since commencing commercial flights in January 2020, STARLUX has operated exclusively with Airbus planes, having received over two dozen aircraft by December 2024.

Airbus reported nearly meeting its delivery goal of around 770 aircrafts for 2024. As per internal audits, this number might be slightly adjusted before final results are published on their website.

As of November 2024, Airbus' A350 family had secured 1,345 orders across different variants. Prior to STARLUX's recent expansion, Etihad Airways had also increased its A350F orders by three units.

While exact delivery dates remain undisclosed for STARLUX’s new order, Airbus indicated that service entry is anticipated in 2026. The A350F will comply with ICAO’s enhanced CO₂ emissions standards effective from 2027 and will temporarily be the sole next-generation freighter until Boeing introduces its 777-8F model post-2028.

Throughout 2024, Boeing delivered several freighters and recorded numerous orders including those from Emirates and Turkish Airlines. Despite challenges with production timelines beyond certain models like the 767F and dwindling backlogs for others like the 777F, demand remained robust as evidenced during industry events such as the Farnborough International Airshow.
