Lufthansa Boeing 787 | Lufthansa

The Lufthansa Group has maintained its position as the leading airline at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) for the year 2024. The group's airlines, which include Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings, and SunExpress, accounted for approximately 30 percent of all flights to and from the airport. This market share places them significantly ahead of their closest competitor, which managed around 17 percent.

In total, the Lufthansa Group transported 6.4 million passengers over the course of the year. On average, a plane from one of its airlines departed BER every 15 minutes. The group offered up to 500 direct flights weekly to nearly 60 destinations through its six airlines operating at BER. Notably, Eurowings alone provided connections from BER to about 45 destinations across Europe, North Africa, and the Gulf region. Passengers flying out of Berlin can access more than 290 global destinations via the group's five hubs.

Despite some airlines planning to scale back operations at BER in 2025, the Lufthansa Group is expanding its presence there. Since October, SWISS has been offering daily non-stop flights between Berlin and Geneva. Eurowings is set to increase its seat capacity by 12 percent with new routes including Bilbao, Corfu, Faro, and Newcastle being added for summer travelers.

Lufthansa's ties with Berlin date back to its founding in the city in 1926. Currently, Lufthansa not only operates flights but also maintains a significant business presence in Berlin akin to that in Frankfurt. Approximately 2000 employees from the Lufthansa Group are based in Berlin.
