As Southern California faces severe wildfires, American Airlines is encouraging its AAdvantage members to contribute to relief efforts by offering bonus miles for donations to the American Red Cross. Until January 22, frequent flyers can earn ten AAdvantage miles for every dollar donated, provided the donation is $25 or more.

Donors have the option to direct their contributions towards specific causes such as the California wildfires, general disaster relief, or other local programs supported by the Red Cross. This initiative not only aids those affected but also offers a potential 16.5% return on donations, according to valuations from The Points Guy.

The opportunity comes at a time when earning AAdvantage miles has become more challenging due to changes in partnerships. However, donors can further benefit by using certain credit cards that offer additional rewards on charitable donations. Recommended cards include the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card and Chase Freedom Unlimited, among others.

Chase cardholders may also take advantage of enhanced value through the Pay Yourself Back feature for donations made until March 31.

The campaign provides an incentive for individuals looking to support wildfire relief efforts while maximizing their reward points. The offer remains available until January 22.
