More than 200 passengers on a Delta Air Lines flight headed to Minneapolis were evacuated at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport due to engine issues with the Boeing 757 aircraft. The incident occurred on January 10, 2025, when the flight crew decided to abort takeoff after detecting an engine problem.

Delta Air Lines confirmed the event, stating: “Delta’s flight crew followed established procedures to suspend the take-off of flight 2668 from Atlanta (ATL) to Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) after an indication of an engine issue.” Passengers had to leave the aircraft using emergency slides. According to airport officials, four people sustained minor injuries; one was taken to a hospital while three others received treatment on-site.

The incident and severe weather conditions caused delays at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. The National Weather Service advised residents to avoid travel unless necessary.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced it would investigate the incident. In its statement, the FAA said: “The crew of Delta Air Lines Flight 2668 aborted take-off at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport around 9:05 a.m. local time on Friday, Jan. 10, due to a reported engine issue. Passengers exited the aircraft on the runway. The FAA will investigate.”

Flight tracking data shows that despite being grounded following the incident, the Boeing 757 is scheduled for another flight from Atlanta to Tampa International Airport on January 11, 2025.

This particular Boeing 757-300 is part of Delta's fleet and can accommodate up to 234 passengers across three classes. As of July 31, 2024, it had accumulated over 73,000 flight hours and nearly 24,000 flight cycles.

Aborted takeoffs are not frequent but may occur for various reasons such as engine problems or unexpected traffic near the runway.
