Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is recognized as a major hub for several airlines, including Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, and American Airlines. Located in Westchester, 18 miles southwest of downtown Los Angeles, LAX serves as the largest international airport in California. In 2023, it handled over 75 million passengers.

Delta Air Lines has emerged as the leading airline at LAX by market share. "The Atlanta-based carrier is currently edging out its rivals to be the largest airline at LAX," with an annual passenger capacity of 14.8 million and a market share of 19.76%. Delta operates several transpacific flights from Los Angeles to destinations such as Sydney and Auckland.

American Airlines holds a significant presence at LAX but remains behind Delta in terms of market share. "The Dallas-based airline continues to build out its network from LAX," with an annual passenger capacity of 11.2 million and a market share of 14.95%. The airline serves nine of the ten busiest domestic routes from LAX.

United Airlines follows closely behind American in terms of market share at LAX. "United is just behind American in terms of market share at LAX," with an annual passenger capacity of 11.1 million and a market share of 14.82%. While its focus is more on San Francisco, United maintains a substantial presence at LAX.

Southwest Airlines stands as the largest low-cost carrier at the airport by market share. "Southwest is the largest low-cost carrier at LAX by market share," holding an annual passenger capacity of 7.1 million and a market share of 9.53%. Southwest plans to add new nonstop flights to Orlando this year.

Alaska Airlines continues to expand its presence at LAX, with an annual passenger capacity of 4.8 million and a market share of 6.48%. "The airline has continued to expand its presence at LAX." Its acquisition strategy included Virgin America in order to gain landing slots essential for expansion.
