Federal Express Corporation has introduced its first electric vehicles in Korea, marking a significant step towards reducing its carbon footprint in the region. The initiative aligns with FedEx's goal of achieving carbon-neutral operations by 2040.

The company has deployed six Hyundai ST1 Electric Cargo Vans for parcel pickup and delivery operations in Seoul and Busan. These vehicles have a load capacity of 1 ton and can travel up to 317 kilometers on a full charge. Each vehicle is expected to prevent approximately 7 metric tons of tailpipe emissions annually compared to diesel-powered vans.

This move supports Korea's objective of cutting emissions by 40% by 2030 relative to 2018 levels and reaching carbon neutrality by 2050. FedEx is also investing in aircraft modernization, sustainable fuels, efficient facilities, and supporting carbon sequestration research.

Wonbin Park, managing director of FedEx Korea, stated, “We are excited to be taking this significant step forward in our commitment to sustainability.” He emphasized the importance of sustainable last-mile deliveries due to the growth of e-commerce.

FedEx has also launched FedEx Sustainability Insights, a tool providing customers with historical emissions data for their shipments within the FedEx network. This helps customers make informed decisions about their shipping strategies.
