Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is known for its extensive network of long-haul flights, including routes to Doha, Jeddah, Dubai, and Singapore. However, it also serves as a significant hub for flights to Mexico, with 17 direct routes making it the third-highest originator of flights to Mexican destinations from the US.

Alaska Airlines emerges as the largest carrier from LAX to Mexico, operating 10 out of these 17 routes. The airline claims to have the most flights, non-stop routes, and seats from the West Coast to Mexico.

A closer look at data from January 2025 reveals the top ten longest Mexican routes from LAX. The list starts with Guadalajara at 1,307 miles away and ends with Cancun at 2,119 miles. Guadalajara leads in terms of frequency with an average of 68 outbound flights per week. Volaris dominates this route with four daily flights using its Airbus A320 family aircraft.

Manzanillo is another destination on this list with six weekly outbound flights provided mainly by Alaska Airlines and Aeromexico. Leon follows closely behind with five weekly flights operated solely by Volaris.

Uruapan has one outbound flight per week but is expected to increase service during summer schedules. Morelia offers five weekly flights solely through Volaris as well.

Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo sees six weekly services operated by Alaska Airlines alone. Mexico City is served by multiple airlines including Aeromexico which provides four daily connections using both narrow-body and wide-body aircraft like the Boeing 787-8.

Oaxaca features four weekly flights exclusively via Volaris while Merida has only two scheduled departures in January offered by Viva Aerobus before ceasing operations next month.

Finally, Cancun stands out not only as the longest route but also one of high demand; United Airlines leads along with Alaska Airlines providing frequent services alongside Delta Air Lines' daily operation utilizing A321neos.

The popularity of these destinations reflects both business ties and leisure travel interests between Los Angeles and various regions across Mexico.
